Film Review: "TANHAJI: THE UNSUNG WARRIOR"

About the story/Theme of the film:-

TANHAJI: THE UNSUNG WARRIOR is the story of one of the greatest warrior of India. The year is 1664. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (Sharad Kelkar) has given a tough fight to the Mughals, headed by Emperor Aurangzed (Luke Kenny), in the Deccan region. As part of agreement Shivaji Maharaj hands over some 23 forts to the Mughals, including the Kondhana Fort. A few years later, Shivaji Maharaj expresses his desire to recapture Kondhana. This is especially when he finds out that Aurangzeb has sent Udaybhan Rathod (Saif Ali Khan), an evil military officer, to control the fort. Shivaji Maharaj realizes that his brave Subedar Tanhaji Malusare (Ajay Devgn) is the best man to get the fort back. What happen next forms the rest of the film.

Characters:-

Ajay Devgn (Tanhaji Malusare) play the lead character. Ajay is perfect for the part and adds a lot through his body language and expression. Saif Ali Khan (Udaybhan Rathod) is superb in the villainous role. Kajol (Savitri) doesn't have much to do but her presence adds a lot to the film. Her scene with Ajay are lovely. Sharad Kelkar stands out as Shivaji Maharaj. His personality, build and voice was just right for such an important historical character. Padmavati Rao (Rajmata Jija aau) has a fine screen presence. Neha Sharma (Kamla) is decent in a supporting role.

Music/Dance/Songs:-

The music is situational 'Ghamand Kar is the theme song of the film and is quite cheerful. "Shankara Re Shankara' comes at a great juncture. Sandeep Shirodkar background score adds to the drama heavily.

Set:

The sets are authentic and not needlessly grand considering that the film focuses on the life of the Maratha soldiers and their houses can't resemble palaces. But while depicting Aurangzeb

residence, the designers have gone all out rightfully so. Action:

Ramzan Bulut and R.P. Yadav's action is a bit gory and visually looks great

Should other watch this film.

On the whole TANHAJI: THE UNSUNG WARRIOR is an entertaining and a paisa- vasool

film that would be loved by the masses as well as classes.

Review of the film 'Padmaavat'

In this historical film, based in 13th century India, Queen Padmavati is happily married to a Rajput ruler Ratan Singh until a tyrant Sultan, Alauddin Khilji, enters their life and declares war on their kingdom due to his obsession with the queen. Khilji goes to great lengths to get her. The film, which was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansalt and released in 2018, became a huge hit and went on to get many awards.

The main characters are Shahid Kapoor as the brave and valiant Ratan Singh; Deepika Padukone as the beautiful, valiant and loyal Rani Padmavati and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji. Aditi Rao Hydari and Jim Sarbh support them ably. The film undoubtedly belongs to Ranveer Singh who brings the fierce, barbaric Khilji to life on the screen. He is magnificent with his scarred face and kohl- lined eyes.

The film manages to convey the message of bravery, valour and pride in the face of obsession. Ratan Singh, shown to be a true Rajput, keeps his word to the evil Khilji, even though he knows that this may lead him to his death. Padmavati retains her purity and loyalty. The ending keeps one glued to their seats.

Some of the high points of the film are the dance 'ghoomar' and 'khalibali'. The music and scenery are breath-taking. All in all, an excellent film, not to be missed.

Review of the book 'Crooked House'.

I recently read the book 'Crooked House' by Agatha Christie, the queen of crime. It was superb.

In the novel, the narrator, Charles, meets Sophia, the girl whom he wants to marry. However, Sophia's grandfather, the rich Mr Leonides, has been murdered and Sophia will not marry Charles till the murderer is caught. Therefore, Charles tries to help Scotland Yard, the headquarters of the police force of metropolitan London, in the investigation. In the process, family secrets tumble out and everybody seems to be a possible killer. There is an accident to another member of the family and another death. Everyone is tense and there is suspicion all around. Finally, the mystery is solved, with a thrilling climax.

The main challenge in the book is to find out who murdered rich Mr Leonides. The language, style and presentation are excellent. There is a strong belief in genetics and heredity running through the book. There is not much of a message, unless it is to tell us that anybody is capable of murder. It is a book which has to be read in one sitting - a must-read for lovers of crime fiction. I read it several umes just to understand the nuances completely. I simply loved the novel.
